Common Questions
What if I cannot attend the meeting?
If you cannot attend a meeting in person or on Zoom it is okay. The members in attendance will vote on which nonprofit will receive our pooled contributions.
Do I have to nominate a nonprofit?
You do not have to nominate a nonprofit each quarter. Three nonprofits will be chosen from the pool that other members have nominated. Each member is allowed to nominate one nonprofit per quarter.
If I have nominated an organization in the past, do I need to nominate them again each quarter?
Yes. At the end of each quarter, the list on nominated organization is wiped clean and we start fresh at the beginning of each quarter. Organizations that have received a nomination for the current quarter are listed on the website.
Is a state-wide organization that does work or provides services in Addison County eligible for nomination?
Yes - if it is a statewide organization that serves Addison County they definitely are eligible. They should be prepared to quantify for us how much (% or actual $ amt or hours) their work supports Addison County residents.
I am curious to know why the Addison chapter gives funds to non-profits located in Chittenden County.... Aren't there enough non-profits in Addison County that need help?"
Our mission is to provide financial assistance to non profit organizations that serve the residents of Addison County. Many of the organizations that we support are located within the boundaries of our county, sometimes the organizations that provide services to the residents of Addison County are located in Chittenden County or other locations throughout the state. Every organization that is nominated by our members are screened to be sure they meet the requirement of providing direct services to our residents. We also ask that the funds that they receive from our organization are directed to Addison County. It is also important to note that some non-profits that are within the bounds of Addison County provide services to citizens both inside and outside of our county.
If a non profit gives out small grants and also offers direct programs, are they eligible for nomination?
Yes – an organization that provides direct services to Addison County residents is eligible to be nominated as long as they can specify that any funds they receive from us will go toward those direct services.
What if I would like to be a member but cannot afford $100 a quarter?
We encourage members to contribute additional funds via Grapevine to sponsor individuals in your situation. Contact us and we will let you know when sponsorship funds become available.
Is 100 Women Who Care, Addison County a 501c-3? Is Grapevine?
No, 100 Women Addison County not is a 501(c)3. But our partner, Grapevine, isa 501(c)3, so your $100 donation is deductible. Your receipt from Grapevine will read "Grapevine Giving Foundation, a 501(c)3 public charity, EIN 87-2389502" so you can record that for your tax purposes.
How do I get receipts for my donations for tax purposes
Each quarter when you make a donation, Grapevine will automatically issue a receipt and they will send you a list of your donations at the end of each year. If you have lost track of those receipts it is easy to have them resent to you. Log into you Grapevine account, navigate to the “My Donations” tab, scroll through your donations and select your missing receipts, then use the button to resend your receipt.
Can I sign up for one quarter at a time, or do I have to sign up for recurring payments? And if I do sign up for recurring payments, can I stop or pause them?
You can definitely sign up on grapevine for just one quarter at a time. Your payment is always for the upcoming meeting. You can also set up recurring donations, which is preferred both so that you don’t forget and so that we can better anticipate what our pooled fund is each quarter. You can go into your grapevine account any time to change payment method, change amount, or stop payments if you need to.
What is the timing of my recurring donation and why is it drawn so early in the cycle?
Recurring donations, like all payments, charge at the beginning of the quarter period. Each donation period ends the day before the upcoming quarter’s meeting, and the *next* quarter is billed on that day. This way we know exactly how much money we have on the day of the meeting, and everyone who has recurring payments is already set for the next quarter. That is important for two reasons. First, you have to be current in payment to attend the quarterly meeting and vote for that quarter’s recipients. Second, in order to nominate a nonprofit you have to be paid up (“member in good standing”) so this way right after the meeting everyone who has recurring payments is already good to nominate the organization of their choice for the following meeting.
Will Grapevine take a percentage of the donations?
No. Grapevine does not take a percentage but there is a credit card fee. So you agree to donate $100/quarter and you get charged a little over that to cover the card fee (2.2% credit and debit card, .8. on bank transfers, 3.5 % on AmEx). Grapevine has an OPTIONAL place to leave them a contribution as well, but it is not required, and all of your $100 goes to our selected charity.
I’m not getting a lot of emails. Should I be worried?
To minimize overwhelming members with emails, we will only rarely reach out to you besides these three standard quarterly emails.
3 weeks before each quarterly meeting announcing that nominations will close in one week (2 weeks before the meeting) so that finalists can be selected
a day prior to each meeting with zoom link
the day after each meeting to announce how the money was awarded, and to open nominations for the next quarter
How do we find out who the three organizations chosen as finalists each quarter are?
Finalists are chosen by a random picking wheel process 2 weeks before each quarterly meeting, and a (usually pretty silly) video of the picking process and the three winners is posted on our website within 24 hours. Chosen finalists are also posted on the nominations tab on the website.
Can men join?
100 Women Who Care Addison County was formed as a giving circle of local women designed to empower local women to make an impact on the community. It is a place where we can connect, network, and lift each other up all while learning about the great works that our local nonprofits are doing in our community. A lot of our members really like that we are a group of women, joined for that reason and love feeling empowered by what we, as a collective, have accomplished. It may be true, we might gain more members and more donations if we were 100 + People Who Care but maybe not. We would invite the men to encourage other women to join or offer a scholarship so that a woman who doesn't have the financial means to participate could get the opportunity.
